Information about Calder Rugby

About Calder Rugby

Calder Rugby was created from a passionate desire to introduce a wider range of sports and healthy activities for the people living in the area of the River Calder - an area once governed by the Good Sir James Douglas. Those of you who have studied Scots history will know of the Black Douglas and the Red Douglas. Few of you might know that they were very active in the River Calder area.

Indeed, Sir Winston Churchill's wife, Clementine, spent much time in the large house built in the woodlands now known as the Historic Douglas Support, which is to the immediate North of Viewpark! Evidence of army activity has been found in the estate - probably from a garrison based there whilst Winston Churchill was visiting.
